E-Absence joins a lineup of features that are already available on the Aspen Parent Portal to manage your student’s school experience. Sign in to your account at ASPEN.CPS.EDU for features including:
 
  • Checking Assignments
  • Viewing Grades
  • Tracking Attendance
  • Paying Fees
 
To access Parent Portal, you must:
  • Be listed as a contact for your student in the Student Information System.
  • Have a valid email in the student’s contact records.
  • Request and submit the validation code sent via email.

Maintaining accurate attendance of our students is a top priority! Updated information on procedures and expectations below:

How do I report my child’s absences?
  • Parent Portal: Submit excused absences through the E-Absence system in Parent Portal through aspen.cps.edu; Instructions found in this video
  • Absence Note: Submit a signed note with date and reason upon return
  • Phone: Call 773-534-8600, option #3, sharing your student's name, absence date, reason, your name, and relationship to student
 
What types of absences are considered “Excused” by CPS? (More about CPS expectations and best practices here.) 
  • Student illness, including mental or behavioral health
  • Death in the immediate family
  • Family emergency
  • Military funeral (sounding taps)
  • Parent/guardian who is an active duty member being called to duty for, on leave from, or has immediately returned from deployment to a combat zone
  • Religious holiday (requires note)
 
How do I secure an early dismissal?
  • Only a parent/guardian listed on the emergency form may pick up a student.
  • Park in front, come to the main office, text your student to meet you, swipe out, and sign out.
  • Phone requests ARE NOT permitted.
  • Students 18+ MAY sign themselves out (parent/guardian will be notified).
  • Students under 18 MAY NOT sign themselves out.
