Local School Council Election Information
Chicago Public Schools have Local School Councils (LSC) which are responsible for three main duties:
  1. Approving how school funds and resources are allocated
  2. Developing and monitoring the annual School Improvement Plan
  3. Evaluating and selecting the school's principal
Deadline dates:
  • LSC Candidates; 3:00pm, October 2, 2020
  • LSC Election Judges: 3:00pm, October 6, 2020
This link to the school locator will allow you to see your voting district boundary: Type in the name of your school ("Jones HS"), select "Enter" on your keyboard, and an informational box will appear. On the lower right-hand side of the box, click the "LSC."
Local School Councils are made up of the principal, parents, community members, school staff members, and students.
Elected LSCs in High schools consist of 13 voting members:
1 - Principal
6 - Parent representatives
2 - Community representatives
2 - Teacher representatives
1 - Non-teaching staff representative
1 - Student representative
Parents and community members elect the parent and community representatives. School staff vote for teacher and non-teaching staff candidates to be appointed to those positions on the LSC by the Board. The composition of Appointed Local School Councils and Boards of Governors varies from the composition of elected LSCs. Please call the Office of Local School Council Relations (773-553-1400) for the composition of a particular Appointed Local School Council or Board of Governors.
Elementary school LSC elections are scheduled for November 18, and high school elections will take place on November 19. The district is developing a modified approach to voting to promote participation and accessibility despite the challenges presented by COVID-19, and additional information will be released in the days ahead.
