Fall Tryouts 2020

The Illinois High School Association (IHSA) announced that it has adjusted its calendar and moved select fall sports to the spring in response to COVID-19.
Under the revised IHSA calendar, the following sports are currently scheduled to move forward in the fall:
  • Girls and Boys Cross Country;
  • Girls and Boys Golf;
  • Girls Swimming and Diving; and
  • Girls Tennis
Due to concerns about the transmission of COVID-19, the IHSA also announced that the following traditional fall sports will be moved to Spring 2021:
  • Boys Football;
  • Boys Soccer; and
  • Girls Volleyball.
Teams will play shortened regular season schedules and state series will be determined on a case-by-case basis. A full listing of the changes to the schedule can be found here. All summer conditioning programs will conclude as previously scheduled at the end of next week.
We know this is not the news that some of our student-athletes or their families want to hear, but we must all do our part to mitigate the spread of COVID-19 in order to keep our communities safe. We will adhere closely to the IHSA guidelines to prioritize the health and well being of our student-athletes.
Fall Sports
On July 29, 2020, the IHSA Board altered the athletic schedule for the 2020-2021 school year. Six sports including boys’ and girls’ cross country, boys’ and girls’ golf, girls’ swimming, and girls’ tennis (see details below).  The modified fall season is scheduled to end on October 24th. Traditional fall sports including football, boys’ soccer, and girls’ volleyball have been tentatively scheduled for the new IHSA spring season (Feb. 15 – May 1). All IHSA sports season dates have been modified and the seasons are compressed.
  • Students will be screened at the start of practice for temperature >100.4F/38C or symptoms of COVID-19 (fevers, chills, cough, muscle aches, headache, sore throat, runny nose, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, or loss of taste or smell).
  • Students must self-monitor for these symptoms prior to arrival at JCP. Any person with symptoms or a positive COVID-19 test, should not participate in practice, competition, or conditioning and should be referred to a physician for evaluation and only return after clearance to do so from a physician.
  • CPS employees and students are asked to abide by the Chicago Travel Order which took effect July 6. Travelers entering or returning to Chicago from states experiencing a surge in new COVID-19 cases will not be allowed to attend camp and need to quarantine for a 14-day period from the time of last contact within the identified state.
  • Students must be honest about their health and stay home if they have any symptoms.
Adhering to these protocols and being honest about your health will ensure that all students continue to play in the coming weeks and months.
Sports Physicals & Player Record Packets
Physical exams are required for fall sports participation. In addition, each student athlete is required to have a Player Packet on file. The IHSA physical form can be found here. Participating students must have a physical completed in 2020 on file at JCP before attending tryouts on August 17. Families can bring the physical form to any doctor to be completed.
These forms must be completed, signed, and uploaded using the link below.

Please note that physicals for incoming freshmen count as the necessary sports physical.
Feel free to email Jones Athletic Director Frank Griseto if you have any questions.
