John Fanning
Well, we're in the second semester of my second year at Jones...I figured it was time to update my page.
So far, so great! I am loving this work with students and staff, and enjoying most (!!) of the challenges in front of us. Life is never dull working in a high school. There are always surprises, and most days don't play out how I imagine that they will. For me, that's a good thing.
This year I am especially excited about our College Knowledge classes, our improving academic supports (like Academic Support Groups), our new personal/social supports (like our small group sessions on stress management, grief, and other topics), our growing college acceptance and scholarship numbers, and the amazing counseling interns and staff who are providing such a wide array of supports and services. Together, we're doing great - even if there is room for improvement (which there always will be!). Check out the Counselors' Corner section of this website to learn more about all that we do.
Outside of school, I'm getting back to some political activism, hopefully returning also to some artmaking, and maybe even some traveling this summer after summer school ends. I just got back from my first snowboarding trip in more than 10 years -- and I didn't break anything. Life is good!
If you need to reach me, email is usually the best way, as I spend as much time as possible out in the school, and that means very little time in my office, especially during the day. And if you need to find me in a pinch -- you can try my cell at 773/419-5477.
Don't be shy...I wouldn't work in a high school if I didn't want to hear from you!!!
P.S. I'm supposed to tell you where I went to college. I went three times!!! Here's the list...
UIUC, Bachelor of Science in Business Administration
Northwestern University, M.B.A. with a focus in non-profit and public administration
University of Chicago, M.A. in social work with a focus in public education administration
(Wow...that's a lot of administration goin' on!)
